Privacy, safety, and your data

Glass is funded by memberships, not advertising. We collect the information needed to run your account and the community, and we give you control over who can see your work.

Privacy without behavioral profiling

Glass does not build behavioral profiles, track how long you look at photos, sell your data, or optimize the product to keep you scrolling. Basic service measurements help keep Glass healthy but are not used to create an advertising profile.

Glass stores the account and profile details you provide, the photos and writing you share, community activity, and technical information needed to operate and secure the service. Support conversations may be kept for follow-up. Payment providers process card details; Glass does not store your full card information.

Appreciations and bookmarks are private. Only the photographer or comment author can see who appreciated their work, and only you can see what you bookmarked. Learn more in Community.

Choose who can see your work

Your controls are in Profile > Settings > Privacy. Photo and comment visibility are separate:

  • A public profile can be viewed and shared anywhere on the web, and its photos may appear in search engines.

  • A members-only profile and its photos can be viewed only by people with an active paid membership (Standard or Patron). Free Viewer accounts cannot see members-only profiles.

  • Comment settings control visibility for comments you leave and discussion on your own photos.

Hiding a photo from your profile is different from making the profile members-only. A hidden photo stays in the Glass community and relevant feeds but no longer appears on your profile. Your profile explains these controls.

Block and report

Blocking is bidirectional: neither member can see or interact with the other's content. To block or report someone, open the menu on their profile and choose Block or Report. To report a photo or comment, open its menu and choose Report.

Reports go to the Glass team for review under the Code of Conduct. The team may remove content or restrict an account when it breaks those rules.

How Glass protects your photos

You keep ownership of every photo you upload. Glass receives the limited permission needed to store and display it and does not use your photos to train AI models.

Glass blocks known AI training crawlers and scrapers. It also uses an invisible layer on full-size web views to deter common right-click and drag-to-desktop downloads. These measures make casual or automated collection harder, but no website can fully prevent someone from saving a display copy.

Glass never serves your original upload to another member or visitor. Read Image quality for storage and display details.

Photo location and GPS

Glass does not display or share photo location, and there is no public map of geotagged work. Display copies have sensitive metadata, including GPS, removed.

If Apple's photo picker says Location Included, that notice comes from the picker. Glass receives only the photos you select and does not display their location.

Download your photos

The self-service archive contains the original files behind photos you posted. It does not currently include a separate file for your profile, comments, appreciations, or other account activity.

  1. Open Profile > Settings.

  2. Choose Download Data on the web or Download Photos on iPhone and iPad.

  3. Use the private link sent by email. It may take up to 24 hours and expires after seven days.

Request the archive before deleting your account if you want to keep your uploaded files.

Delete your account and data

Account deletion removes your account, photos, posts, Series, profile picture, and associated account activity. Glass cannot restore them after deletion finishes.

On the web, open Delete Account in Settings. On iPhone and iPad, open Profile > Settings > Delete Account. Deletion is scheduled seven days after confirmation and can be cancelled from the same screen before that date.

Deleting an account and cancelling a membership are not the same action. Website subscriptions stop renewing when deletion is scheduled. App Store and Google Play billing must be cancelled in Apple or Google subscription settings. Read Membership and billing before deleting if you have an active subscription.

For account details and sign-in options, see Settings and account. Privacy rights and data requests can be sent to legal@glass.photo.
