How do you prevent AI bots from scraping photos on Glass?
We take protecting your work seriously. On Glass, we’ve implemented several layers of defense to prevent AI bots from scraping your photos without permission:
1. We block known AI bots in robots.txt
This tells compliant crawlers they’re not allowed to index or access most of our site. We currently block dozens of AI-related bots, including:
- GPTBot (OpenAI / ChatGPT)
- ClaudeBot (Anthropic)
- PerplexityBot
- Meta-ExternalFetcher (Facebook/Instagram)
- Google-Extended
- Amazonbot
- Bytespider (TikTok)
- And many more…
You can view the full list of blocked user agents in our current robots.txt file here: https://glass.photo/robots.txt
2. We block the same bots at the network level
For bots that ignore robots.txt (and many do), we also block them at our CDN and application layer. This means even if they try to fetch your photos directly, we deny the request before it reaches our servers.
We keep an up-to-date list of suspicious AI scrapers, and any requests from those user agents get hit with a 403 Forbidden error.
3. You can limit visibility to members only
Want extra protection? You can make your profile “members only” — this hides it from public feeds, search engines, and non-members. It’s a great way to keep your work within the trusted Glass community.
We know that no protection is 100% perfect — but we’re committed to doing everything we can to keep your photos safe, respected, and out of unauthorized training datasets. If you ever see something suspicious, let us know.
