Reginald Cunningham knows his stuff; an artist capturing artists, game recognizing game. He’s not just at the event, he gets the event. A collector of moods, turning sound and the spectacle of performance into stills you can feel, stills that come alive, stills that remind you of your own epic experiences.

You can almost hear the crowd in his photographs, sense the density of the air, the pulse of the room. The atmosphere itself is a part of the story, not just a backdrop. And, despite the myriad of aspects to consider in this line of shooting, Reginald's compositions keep it simple, tight, and powerful. He uses negative space with purpose, allowing for these musicians and artists to have presence...giving them room to resonate within each image.

Reginald displays a phenomenal balance of immersion, control, and quick thinking required for this work. But he doesn’t stop at major musical or cultural events. His portrait work carries that same depth of expression, a deliberate search for light, and clear, thoughtful intention with all of his subjects.

We do try to keep Spotlights on the shorter side. Our goal is to present a sampling and allow for discovery when we feature massive talent. But trust us, keeping this shorter was difficult. The narrative of joy, presence, and power is so strong in this work.
