Superb Owls with Betty

This one's for the birds.Spotlights

Wildlife photography is not for the faint of heart. It’s arguably one of the most challenging subjects our medium has to offer. Often, it means early mornings, late nights, unforgiving temps or humidity levels, environments rough on both gear and bodies. And that’s just on the photographer side. Successful wildlife imagery is a commitment to study and a dance with luck. Knowing your habitats, paying attention to patterns over time, and understanding animal behavior are all important. The extra tricky bit is, outcomes aren't fully in your control. You can invest hours of patience and still be completely ghosted by your subject.

Betty is a formidable nature photographer. A quick look at her feed reveals a keen eye, playful dedication, and uncanny ability to be at the right place at the right time. Owls (notoriously difficult to track and quite shy) feature often in her images.

These aren’t your typical lucky snapshots. Betty’s owl photographs are solidly portraits. These images showcase unexpected personality from these silent flyers. Her technique is dialed in so well, she’s gone beyond just getting excellent visual documentation, she’s sharing her experiences with us.

Owls are fascinating, complex, and elusive birds. They tend to be an enigma within the Kingdom Animalia. Betty’s work gives us a glimpse into their lives.
