Spooky Season

You’re lying draped across the couch. It’s late. The house is still, and dark, lit only by the glow of your TV. Dinner eaten. Emails responded to. Work, wrapped. You even called your mom earlier. Credits roll across the screen. You imagine snuggling into the covers after a long, but productive fall day.

Suddenly, a slight but noticeable temperature drop. Goosebumps rise, as a shiver travels down your spine. Something is different. Something is off.

Did I lock the door?

Of course you did. You checked the windows too, after opening them to let in crisp autumn air. You drew the drapes, closed your blinds, even heard the reassuring beep of your car locking outside. All is well. All is normal.

So why does it feel like you aren’t alone? Like something is watching you?

A noise from the other room. Was that the cat? You don’t have a cat.

You try to quiet your lizard-brain panic with a little humor. In this economy, I hope it’s a ghost. You chuckle to yourself, weakly.

Slowly, you rise from the couch. Moving closer and closer to your small home office, the origin of the sound. You shake your head and roll your shoulders to release the tension.

There it is again, just on the other side. A rustle. A sound you can’t place. Screwing your courage to the sticking place, you reach for the doorknob.

You throw open the door. On your small, unassuming desk, a glowing rectangle of absolute terror.

Your phone. A notification. Multiple. And it’s too late. You can’t unsee the latest one.

Glass’ Halloween spotlight has arrived. Examples of creepy creativity and sinister settings to craft the darkest of visual delights. There’s no escape now.

Happy Spooky Season, y’all.
