Shape and Silence with Eric Mörschel

Elegant, uncanny, and deeply consideredSpotlights

Sometimes, the best Spotlights are already hiding in plain sight. When Glass member Luca Sbordone nominated Eric Mörschel, he put it simply: “He is consistently one of the photographers I admire the most on Glass.” We couldn’t agree more.

Eric’s work leans into the timeless power of black and white — a visual language he handles with uncommon clarity. His compositions are built on geometry and balance, often framing architecture and space with a studied precision. But it’s the way he brings people into those frames that truly elevates his work.

Each figure, whether central or passing through, feels perfectly placed, revealing the tension and harmony between the human and either the built or natural environment. There’s elegance in the balance, and something quietly uncanny too. Eric’s photographs suggest a world almost adjacent to ours. It's one of stillness, beauty, and subtle disquiet that makes us wish we could jump right into the scene.

Originally trained in architecture, Eric now photographs with full-frame mirrorless cameras, driven more by instinct than gear. He describes his process as “done with the head and rated by gut instinct, where my aesthetic sense lives.” That pairing of thoughtful structure and intuitive seeing defines his voice: measured, resonant, and unmistakably his.

We’re honored to feature him in this member-submitted Spotlight. If you’ve spent enough time on Glass, you’ve likely felt the quiet pull of his photography already — and if not, now’s your chance.
