How We Got Here
The Glass team started talking in earnest about what to do about Twitter, our main marketing channel, collapsing at the end of September. It was becoming clear that the Twitter board and the court system were going to force the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk, a transphobic authoritarian billionaire. Twitter was not without its problems, but Musk was clearly an exponentially worse owner. Less than two months in, and the platform is near collapse, and we can’t in good conscience stay on it any longer.
We decided we needed to refocus our efforts on our internal marketing channel — Highlights. We worked through a redesign and made sure it was set up to serve our needs moving forward into the new year.
What to Expect
More Email
Email is still king. If we’re being honest, our monthly email is one of the best things we do. We’ll be focusing more on email in 2023. If you haven’t yet, sign up here.
A Podcast
We’re very excited. More next month on when and where you can sign up.
Other Channels
We’ll be taking our bad jokes to Mastodon, and you’ll find us more active on Instagram. What? It’s a terrible place to post photos, but as a marketing channel? It’s okay. Besides, there are a lot of photographers there.
Meetups
If the pandemic cooperates with us, we’ll be hosting meetups in cities across the US and Europe in 2023. If they go well, we’ll be building systems to help support Glass members hosting their own meetups.
Partnerships
We’re currently running a holiday giveaway promo (go buy a gift membership!! plz thx) with Capture One, Moment, Darkroom, and Obscura! They’re all great! We’re going to be doing more work with aligned partners in 2023. If that’s you or your company, send us an email at highlights@glass.photo and let’s chat.
Influencer Marketing
Expect to see our logo popping up at the start of more YouTube videos and in your favorite newsletters. Do you have a YouTube channel or Newsletter and love Glass? Please see the previous paragraph for our email — we’d love to hear from you.
Oh, and a secret thing
Can’t tell you anything about it. But it’s going to be wonderful and a huge deal for Glass and the community we’re building together. Don’t want to miss it? Sign up for our newsletter.
