This month, our category returns to one of the foundational elements of photography. Perspective is the spacial relationship between objects in a photo. Shooting high or low, moving closer or farther away, or choosing wide vs. telephoto lenses; these are all ways photographers can exaggerate scale, compress space, emphasize foreground or background elements, and influence how a viewer emotionally experiences an image.
Perspective doesn’t have to be purely technical. This visual tool can guide the feeling of an image or even create novel meaning, simply by how lines, space, and scale are used. Given the diversity of our community, we can't wait to see the ways you share this element with us!
