International Dog Day

We launched our highly requested dog category a few years ago with one word: Finally.

After a whole lot of emails and polite, but firm comments, Dog went live. You all had many images to share, stories to tell, and furry friends for us to meet. We understand. Of all the animals, dogs have a special relationship with humans. They've been our constant companions for millennia, developing alongside us and becoming a part of our lives in ways few other animals have. They've guarded our livestock, been trail buddies, helped us with our mental health, made us laugh, cry, and feel just a little less alone. Just take a look at this series. Rest in peace with all the balloons and treats, sweet Juliette (pictured below). Thank you for sharing your story with us, Dmytro.

Dogs have shared so many of our moments as true members of the family. Their importance to us might be hard to quantify, but anyone who's ever bonded with a dog knows exactly how it feels. Even after all her time with chimpanzees, Jane Goodall's favorite animal was her dog, Rusty. No wonder.

It's International Dog Day, so tell your dog we said "hi."
