Boot Hill Tree
West Elk Mtn's of the Rockies. H for the town of Hotchkiss below the right peak.
This is in Hotchkiss cemetery which is indeed on a hill and from the ground you can imagine it was once Boot Hill. It's really more like Boot Mesa and from below you cannot see any headstones.
Borrowed my friend's Ricoh GR-IIIX. Fixed LCD is not good - but he had special bright LCD mode turned off. I'll have to play with it more. My old Nikon Coolpix A is a far more 'useable' camera, but I've had eleven years to get used to it. They are virtually identical size, both APS-C format. The Nikon has a wider lens and real buttons.
We had a lot of thunderstorms last night and I forgot to close the window in the bathroom. My wet razor fired up some synapses in my brain and I had to take a foto.
It's been a while friends. Glad to still be alive.
Nik did some wrangling on Killers of the Flower Moon. Y'all can see him for about 7 seconds in some race scene. He's got a big ole Stetson. Now he wants to live in Hollywood :)
Chris fell from his loft bed. He walked around like the Living Dead for two weeks before he finally went to the hospital. Two brain operations later he's going to be fine.
Tough 70 year old son-of-a-bitch lumberjack.
Chelsie cow-spotter and her friend - Andrea (?). Two of the lovely women in Paonia.
Used JPEG XL to edit in. Didn't notice any real difference from the RAW. Big size difference.
Since I stopped shooting and or posting every day I've enjoyed the lack of self-imposed pressure. But it's not good for me. I've always thought that joining the armed forces would have been good for me, so long as I didn't have to kill!
Anyway. Was enjoying brekko and my friend said "Ooh look cows!"
I guess they are moving them from their winter pastures. Can you spot something missing from this foto?
The old Mauer barn. I was a passenger in a car and loved being able to really look at everything - my first time in the area. Saw the barn and as soon as I got in my car I drove back and took the shot. I think the dreary day helped.
Olden times. I love using bare head flash from as far away as possible.
Mamiya RZ67, 110mm f2.8. Agfa 100. Agfa Brovira.
Stanley Korshak, 1987.
I'm pretty sure I've posted this before but this is a better print. Angie Harmon before she turned to acting and "Law & Order" and others. She nailed this spot and pose every time.
Mamiya RZ67. Forget lens. Agfa film & paper. Paul Buff monolight to the left to freeze action. His gear was cheap but it was tough and served me well for years:)
Fendi for Stanley Korshak, Dallas. 1987.
Another treasure from the archives.
Korshak were the dream client. Not only did they let me do whatever I wanted, but I got 50% off in the men's department. I never had a better client.
I was just starting off and poor. I shot with Mamiya RX67 and a 110mm f2.8 but I lit it with an old slide projector.
The Jags, 1979. Nick Watkinson (3rd r) and I went to art School together. He formed the Jags in his last year. I then met John Alder (smoking) and we became good chums. We are both nerds and smart alecks. We still try and crack each other up in 2024.
Shooting bands was always tough. Inevitably somebody would have their eyes closed. This came out ok thanks to my "don't smile" direction 😉
Their big hit - http://tinyurl.com/ynbne37w
Probably shot on Nikon FM with 105mm. Agfa 100 film and Agfa paper. All I ever used :)
My friend Steve is in hospital. He has a fractured pelvis, pneumonia, cancer of the oesophagus and just got over CV19. Multiple conditions preclude any treatment apart from palliative care...
He's an amazing character. Here he is chanting a poem whilst drumming on his guitar. He writes and draws and plays. He has a profound belief in his God which is buoying him on the journey.
On Monday he married his lady of over 40 years.
Edit: Sadly Steve passed away January 30, 2024. Janet was by his side.
Found a few polaroids from some old shoots. Isaac Tigrett, co-founder of Hard Rock Café. The first opened in London and we thought we were so cool drinking Schlitz!
I looked forward to shooting him when they opened in Dallas. Got to see the huge collection of Rock $ Roll memorabilia he has - Jimmy Hendrix's Isle of White guitar etc. But I really wanted to talk to him about his spiritual life. But it was not to be. He's deeply into that these days.
I was just testing lighting here. The RZ 67 was a great editorial camera as you got a full coverage polaroid and you could visualize a portrait or landscape and this, natch, was cropped into a portrait.
"Why won't you eat your leftovers?"
Did this whilst rocking to this amazing Nile Rogers & CHIC video – oh boy! What a pro & his band!? Incredible. Talk about consummate musicians.

Balor.
I posted 365 fotos in 365 days. I loved maybe 13. Kudos to Markus et al. He's so moody :)
Peace. L E Z.
Red Hot Tub. Fire Mountain.
We never know where life will take us. I was in Mexico five years ago today, slamming Mescal, looking out on a plaza packed with hundreds of people. I didn't know that when I got home I was about to start another chapter in my life.
Five years later. I'm sipping club soda in a wood-fired, hot tub in the Rockies. All it took was letting go. Easy right? 🤡
It's been an honour to be part of this talented, creative community. Happy New Year and may you find the courage to follow your path ❤️
My house has been a mess since I brought stuff out of storage. So I faff around making panos. Every day I swear I'm going to tidy up. I need to have a yard sale.

My new friend John.S.
Paonia Bread Works. Paonia, CO, USA.
He walked in wearing coveralls and a fur lined aviator hat and I said "Hi" and he got coffee and sat with us and he, Bradley & I had the most wonderful conversation.

The back 40.
I've never lived in a place where you get serious snow. And the way it piles up on surfaces charms me. I think it looks like frosting/icing. So I imported some giant cherries from the far East, et voilà.
