I took this photo the day I really believed Glass was going to exist.

Tom and I met back in 2013 when he left Facebook and moved back to Portland. Met at a meetup, had a great alcohol fueled argument about tech nonsense, and that was that. We met up for lunch a few weeks later. I told him about a photography art magazine idea I had, he told me about an idea for a photography community and platform.

We kept talking. I gave up on my magazine idea. Tom didn't give up on his photography community idea. Every few months, we'd randomly chat about it. Eventually, the name Glass came about. Potential collaborators would pop up, disappear, back on the shelf it'd go.

But 2019 was different. Tom met Stefan while they were working together at Framer. It was go time. Skeptical and excited, I waited.

Near the end of the year, Tom and I met up for lunch and a walk and some coworking. He pulled open his laptop and showed me new screens, new designs, new flows. Holy shit. It was really happening. I told him, "Just give me a month's notice for launch so I can whip your marketing and positioning into shape before it goes live." 

I was in such a good mood from it actually happening, I walked home instead of taking the tram you see in the photo. We ended up using it all over Glass's marketing while we were in closed beta. 

The closed beta went live. It was rough, it was beautiful, it was exactly what I wanted. At the end of June last year, it was time. Coach put me, I'm ready. A quick sprint. I wasn't supposed to stay. Just help a bit with launch and let them ride off into the sunset.

Up late working on wrapping up things for the Glass Anywhere launch. I've started hopping back into the archive to re-edit photos as a distraction and break when I need it.

Not that I'm fretting over a handful of words in the launch post right this moment at half an hour past midnight. Nope. Just editing this old photo that I took from the best camping site I ever had.

So now I'm just supposed to go back to photographing a city???

As we were driving off the property to head home, there was a dope truck parked along the road. As if to say, "Okay, enough landscapes, get back on your bullshit."

Being right at cloud level had plusses and minuses. 

Plus — you're in a cloud semi-regularly. 
Minus — oh no, the view.

Turns out, sunsets from the Sunset Point Hike were great. Who could've guessed?

On our last evening there, the weather cleared just in time to take a short hike to get a quality sunset photo or two.

Some of us were less excited about the morning coffee.

Did we bring our entire coffee set up — a variable temp gooseneck kettle, a burr grinder, and Kalita Wave — to the mountains so we've have great coffee every day?

Of course, why do you ask?

My monthly "Oh, right, this camera shoots Macro" photo.

The fog rolled in so thick that golden hour couldn't burn it off. So it was just walking through a warm soft box.

Pancho is just a guy. But also a fella. A baby guy fella. Just a guy.

When we booked this trip, I made sure it was over a new moon. Looking at how far away from any real light sources we would be, I wanted to shoot the Milky Way. The weather kept getting in the way. Too cloudy, too foggy, too rainy, too something.

During one of the thunderstorms, I figured I should get outside and try to take some photos of the wild electrical storm that was happening across the valley. And then I stepped outside to completely clear skies above the storm.

This storm went on for two hours.

Sometimes you miss focus and that's okay.

The good news — there was an incredible soaking tub in the cabin.

The bad news — the water heater was so small that it needed to fill up three times to fill the tub.

The good news — the garden looked like this through the steamy window.

This was the main view from our hammock. Did I play Rollercoaster Tycoon on my iPad too much instead of looking at this view? Yes.

Spent the last week on vacation in the Mexican mountains with barely any cell service and this view. This is the worst view from the property at first light.

Because I was on vacation, of course it was our busiest week since launch and Mosseri tanked one of my vacation days. But hi new Glass friends!

Now to sort through these 701 photos for the best... 12. 12? 12. Sure.

Oh god, now I'm in the Montana archives and I can't leave. 

As a queer man, I don't miss living in Montana often. But when I do, it's because I miss Glacier National Park being a 20 minute drive from home.

I can never tell if I should align the subject of the photo or the actual... you know, scene. Like this sign is slightly tilted, but the building in the background is properly aligned/straightened. 

Sometimes I take pictures with people in them.

All of my photos are within like a 20 block radius of my house. Should I go a little further and take a photo of something not in that radius? Yes. 

Will I? Maybe one day.

Good morning, it's lovely to see you today. You're doing a great job and I am proud of you.

I have been trying to photograph this car for six months and this morning it was FINALLY alone on the block.

May you be blessed with zero meetings and phone calls today.

The rainy season means everything is growing and thriving and it's wonderful. But it also means I'm too lazy to go out and take photos because it's humid and hot and wet.

Yes, I am blaming the weather on my lack of motivation.

Had to go back into the archives to find a photo for an old client and oh, look, a nice long exposure of a lake in the mountains of Guatemala.

This is the first bug I photographed in Mexico. First morning of vacation, walking to the closest coffeeshop. When we got our visas in Netherlands, I said, "We're never leaving. Unless we fall in love with Mexico in a couple of months."

365 days after returning from that vacation, we were at the airport with all our things boarding a one-way flight to Mexico.

I tried taking this photo a dozen times from different angles. Just couldn't get it work. 

Was hoping to make the white lines on the trees line up with the sidewalk line. Would make a nice inverse. But the paint on the tree went up a little too high to make it work.

Oh well. Here's to failing.

The early morning mountain light here is so weird. High desert mountain living forever.

I really love it when you take a photo that FEELS like you, but also doesn't belong with any of the photos you've taken before.

The literal atmosphere is really weird right now as the edge of Hurricane Agatha forms off the southern coast. 

It's gonna rain all week and I'm definitely not taking any photos this week. So. Enjoy the weird vibes from right before the rain starts.
